The Appalachian Trail near Raven Rock shelter, Maryland. This section of the AT is maintained by the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC). Sarah Jones Decker was born in Winchester, VA and started hiking the AT locally in high school. She thru-hiked the trail in 2008 and again in sections in 2018-2019, for her book, The Appalachian Trail: Backcountry Shelters, Lean-tos and Huts. Sarah is a farmer, photographer and writer based in North Carolina.
